My Hearing Loss

hearing aids

Yes I know, this is a bit random!

This short post is designed to inform and educate people on the issue of Hearing loss and the sometimes extreme difficulties it can create for the sufferer. Here goes ......(I’ve tried to keep this short and concise)

hearing aidI wear small behind the ear hearing aids. My hearing loss was due to being born 2 months premature.(On 2 separate occasions I had the last rites read out to me by the hospital nun before I was healthy enough to go home)...sob story completed.

My hearing loss in both ears is around 50%.

The main thing I want to educate people on is the huge difficulty that moderate and loud “Background Noise” presents for people like myself when we are listening to someone or trying to hold a conversation. Background noise comes in many forms: background music, noisy traffic, babies crying, people talking loudly, loud tv etc.hearing loss

People with normal hearing have the natural ability to separate any background noise from (what they are listening to or someone who is speaking to them.

This is why I sometimes struggle to hear what people saying to me and why I observe people's lips when listening to them as I can lipread extremely well.

Lesson over !!

Cheers,

Richard
